the past and the future
This group discussion is ideally delivered on site and teamed with the meet the animals night walk, though it is also offered via a Mt Rothwell educator’s visit to your school. Compare the past with the present, through a range of discussion topics including: the geography of Mt Rothwell and its surrounding area, pre white settlement, and early white settlement to the present day. Examine the history of human interaction with the environment through practices such as landcare, recreation, industry, farming, tourism and education. Discover how feral pest control and early farming methods decimated the local wildlife populations and indigenous vegetation. Explore other ways humans have interacted with the environment: hear about Mt Rothwell’s volunteers and their commitment to the management of the site; compare their guardianship of the land with that of the Wathaurong.
